Land Locked Controversial Conservation Easements Last Forever

Make an Informed Decision about Conservation Easements by Dan Byfield

Regional habitat conservation plan raising concerns

Southern Edwards Plateau Habitat Conservation Plan

Conservation Easements are a relatively new tool in the debate of private land conservation, development of rural land due to urban growth, and preservation of historically significant geological features. There are many sides to the argument of private use vs. public good and several good sources to learn more about the requirements, restrictions, and application process for granting or rejecting one of these easements.
The largest and most highly controversial conservation easement pertaining to the Hill Country at this time is the Southern Edwards Plateau Habitat Conservation Plan (SEP-HCP). Bexar County and the City of San Antonio are developing an application to submit to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to establish a regional habitat conservation plan to be known as the Southern Edwards Plateau Habitat conservation Plan (SEP-HCP) and include multiple counties south of Mason County, but not Mason County.
